Sunday, May 24, 2020 – Saturday, May 30, 2020
(Phase 3 Activity):

  • Jacking of the existing interior and exterior girders at the west abutment on the south bridge.

  • Installation of the demo shield under the existing bridge scuppers on the south bridge at spans 5 and 6.

  • Installation of the hand railing and removal of the existing bridge railing at span 15.

  • Started stage 3 demolition.

  • Cleaning of the debris on the existing sidewalk on the south bridge at span 15.

  • Jacking of the bridge at pier 2 on the south bridge.

  • Removal of the existing bearing assemblies from the exterior girders in spans 2 and 3.

  • Core drilling for the proposed anchor bolts at the west abutment on the south bridge (interior girders).

  • Installation of the timber hand railing in spans 1 - 3.

  • Removal of the existing bridge railing on the south bridge at spans 11 and 12.

  • Drilling holes at west abutment caps (northbound) for the future placement of the bridge bearings.

  • Installation of the proposed bearing assemblies at pier 2 on the south bridge.

  • Installation of the safety railing along the concrete barriers of the East Capitol Street, (southbound).

  • Installation of the bearings and overhang brackets between piers 14 and 15 on the south bridge.

Sunday, May 17, 2020 – Saturday, May 23, 2020
(Phase 2 & 3 Activity):

  • Removal of the existing rivets from the existing floor beam at pier 14. 

  • Repaired under the bridge deck in spans 14 and 15 of the north bridge.

  • Installation of the jacking towers at the west abutment on the south bridge.

  • Installation of the demo shield under the existing bridge scuppers in spans 2 and 3 on the south bridge.

  • Cutting and trimming of a portion of the jacking angles at pier 14 on the south bridge.

  • Corrected the alignment of the pedestrian railing at span 13 and 15 on the north bridge. 

  • Removal of the existing conduit from the side of bridge at pier 3 (eastbound). 

  • Installation of the jacking angles at pier 14 on the south bridge.

  • Installation of the striping on the north bridge (east and west sides of the bridge for stage 3 traffic switch).

  • Installation of several construction warning and detours signs for the upcoming traffic switch onto the temporary ramps and the north bridge.

  • Switched the traffic to the phase 3 on the north bridge.

  • Assembled over-hang brackets for the future demo of the existing sidewalk (southbound).

  • Installation of the safety railing along the concrete barriers of the East Capitol Street Bridge (southbound).

Sunday, May 10, 2020 – Saturday, May 16, 2020
(Phase 2 Activity):

  • Installation of jacking angle at pier 13 on the south bridge.

  • Prepped the existing deck slabs in spans 14 and 15 and the east approach slab for the latex modified concrete placement, including performing the dry run of the finishing machine.

  • Installation of the demo shield under the existing bridge scuppers on the south bridge at span 14.

  • Removal of the exiting asphalt at the east and west sides of the north bridge.

  • Corrected the alignment of the proposed pedestrian railing.

  • Closed the right lane (westbound) to repair the south bridge median barrier.

  • Removal of the existing asphalt on the east and west sides of the north bridge.

  • Removal of the screed rails from spans 14 and 15 on the north bridge.

  • Continued to clean and bolt down the scupper grates.

  • Prepped south bridge median barrier for repair.

  • Removal of equipment and debris from spans 8 – 15 in preparation for upcoming grooving operation.

Sunday, May 3, 2020 – Saturday, May 9, 2020
(Phase 2 Activity):

  • Stripping of the overhang from pier 9 on the north bridge and hand chipping beyond strip seal joints at piers 10 and 11.

  • Installation of pedestrian railing at spans 1 - 2 on the north bridge.

  • Repairing of the south bridge median barrier.

  • Installation and alignment of the pedestrian railing between piers 9 and 10.

  • Removal of existing rivets in the top and bottom flanges that conflicted with the jacking angles in spans 13 and 14.

  • Removal and relocation of the screed railing from spans 10 and 11 to spans 13 and 14 on the north bridge.

  • Installation of demo shields under the existing bridge scuppers on the south bridge at spans 14 and 15.

  • Stripping of the timber formwork from the bridge sidewalk in spans 9 and 10 on the north bridge under the deck.

  • Removal of the sections of the existing empty electrical conduit on the south side of the south bridge at span 14.

  • Power washed the deck at spans 12 and 13 for the up-coming placement of the latex modified concrete overlay.

  • Chipping along the proposed armor joint at the east approach on the north bridge.

  • Performing of cleaning operations project wide.
