Sunday, December 22 – Saturday, December 28, 2019
(Phase 2 Activity):
  • Removed the existing bearing assemblies and core drilling for the proposed anchor bolts at pier 13, north bridge.

  • Continued demolition of pedestrian sidewalk between piers 13 and 14 at the westbound portion of the East Capitol Street bridge.

  • Drilled holes into deck between piers 10 and 11 for the installation of supports for demo shields and removal of existing scuppers.

  • Worked on armored joints at piers 10 and 14.

  • Installed sidewalk formwork and block outs for historical bridge rail at span 6 and striping sidewalk formwork at span 5.

  • Removed support forms and demo shields for scuppers between piers 6 and 7.

  • Striped the block out and outer edge at span 4.

  • Removed one existing scupper and continued to layout epoxy coated reinforcement at span 6.

  • Chipped deck concrete for proposed scuppers between piers 9 and 10 and removed the debris to the west abutment. 

  • Removed block-forms from the bridge sidewalk for the historic bridge railing base between piers 5 and 6. 

Sunday, December 15 – Saturday, December 21, 2019
(Phase 2 Activity):
  • Drilled the proposed bearing pedestal anchor bolts at pier 3, north bridge.

  • Lowered the bridge at pier 1, north bridge/spans 1 and 2.

  • Installed the elastomeric bearing pads under the sole plates prior to lowering the bridge.

  • Grouted the anchor bolts at pier 1 and then completed installing the epoxy coated rebar for bearing pedestal at pier 3 north bridge.

  • Chipped the parapet by hand at span 15 and installed sidewalk formwork.

  • Removed existing scuppers.

  • Installed sidewalk edge forms between piers 4 and 5. 

  • Installed timber formwork between the floor beams at pier 10 and pier 14 for installation of proposed armor joints.

  • Milled existing concrete along the proposed sidewalk on the deck at span 14.

  • Started clearing and removing construction materials, debris, and equipment from in front of the existing west abutment north bridge.

  • Installed the demo shield under the proposed and existing bridge scuppers in span 8, north bridge.

  • Placed thermal blankets on proposed bridge sidewalk between piers 3 and 5 for the prevention of frost on the forms and rebars.

  • Installed additional bars under the existing scuppers that were removed.

  • Reinforced bars for proposed sidewalk (north).

  • Removed and striped wooden forms from bridge sidewalk between piers 1 and 2.

  • Formed the curb portion of the bridge sidewalk at span 6.

Sunday, December 8 – Saturday, December 14, 2019
(Phase 2 Activity):
  • Installed sidewalk formwork at span 13 and span 14.

  • Removed the existing armor joint at pier 10, north bridge.

  • Drilled for the proposed anchor bolts at pier 1 and completed striping and removing the formwork from the bearing pedestals at pier 4.

  • Installed the elastomeric bearings prior to lowering the bridge at pier 4.

  • Hand chipped parapet at span 13 and installed sidewalk formwork at span 12.

  • Continued demolition of concrete from the bridge’s deck between piers 5 and 6 to remove existing scuppers.

  • Jacked the existing bridge at pier 1 and removed the existing bearing assemblies.

  • Installed 4 proposed bridge bearings at pier 1.

  • Laid out epoxy coated reinforcement bars for proposed sidewalk north bridge at span 4 and installed epoxy coated rebars for the bridge sidewalk.

  • Prepared for the bridge jacking operation at pier 3. 

  • Started installing the demo shield for the removal of the existing bridge scupper at span 7.

  • Installed sidewalk edge forms between piers 4 and 5.

Sunday, December 1 – Saturday, December 7, 2019
(Phase 2 Activity):
  • Installed epoxy coated rebar for the proposed bridge scuppers in spans 4 and 5.

  • Drilled for the proposed anchor bolts in the proposed bearing pedestals at pier 14, north bridge.

  • Demolition of the parapet continued at span 13, and hand chipping parapet at span 14.

  • Removed the existing bridge cribbing at pier 3, north bridge.

  • Removed the timber supports as well as the metal plates under the floor beams.

  • Installed one proposed bridge scupper in span 1 adjacent to the west abutment.

  • Installed sidewalk formwork at span 12.  

  • Installed epoxy coated rebars for scupper prior to placing the concrete.

  • Stripped and removed the timber formwork from pier 14.

  • Continued and completed drilling for the proposed bearing pedestal rebar to be installed in the new bearing pedestals at pier 4, north bridge.

  • Milled the concrete deck for the proposed sidewalk at spans 12 and 13. (sidewalk forming was also continued).

  • Removed concrete from base of barrier wall between pier 11 and 13.

  • Cleaned debris from bridge sidewalk forms and rebars between piers 1 and 3.

  • Assembled and installed wooden forms for proposed bridge side walk between piers 13 and 14.
